While our “core four” royals— Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle —are currently represented by a single official Instagram account, @KensingtonRoyal , the feed serves essentially as a P.R. tool, releasing selected photos from their appearances and logistical announcements. There is certainly a great interest in these images—the account has 7.1 million followers; and one can only imagine the excitement there would be if the individual royals had personal Instagram accounts (something that would also serve, of course, to help in the Palace’s efforts to “modernize” the monarchy). But Meghan Markle’s Instagram account was famously deleted shortly before she became the Duchess of Sussex—and right now, Princess Eugenie is the only young royal with a public account of her own , having accumulated 637,000 followers.

So while it might be some time before we get a Duchess of Cambridge account (imagine all the artistic shots of Lupo and the Palace grounds we could get! Kate loves taking photos!), this might be the closest we’ll come for a while: on Thursday, the Daily Mail noticed that James Middleton — marshmallow entrepreneur and Kate’s brother—has had a public Instagram for some time, which has gone surprisingly under-the-radar.

Unfortunately, the account (which remains public for now) doesn’t provide too many royal-related nuggets. Instead, we have dogs, dogs, some nature shots, a few portraits and photos of friends, and then more dogs. Kate does not appear in his feed (which dates back to 2013), though their sister Pippa appears in several images. The Daily Mail noted James still follows ex-girlfriend Donna Air on Instagram, who also appears in occasional photos. (In one amusing post, James screenshots a Daily Mail caption lightly mocking his choice of ride, indicating a sense of humor about his unusual life.)

James’s account has gained about 10,000 followers in 24 hours (he’s now at about 15,000), and he follows just more than 300 people, including Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, and (Prince Harry ex-girlfriend) Cressida Bonas. We want to believe that one of the feeds he follows, as well, is Kate’s secret account.
